Pam Oshiro-Fossati
|
|
|
|
Pam is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker trained in Child Parent Psychotherapy, endorsed as an Early Childhood Mental Health Practitioner and a Reflective Practice Facilitator II. She has worked in the field of community based mental health for approximately 18 years. Pam currently holds the Clinical Program Coordinator position at the Community Solutions, a non-profit agency serving the Santa Clara County communities. For the past 7 years, the focus of Pam’s clinical work has been on the birth to five population.

She is deeply passionate about trauma work and early intervention. She finds early childhood mental health work to be fascinating, powerful, healing, and truly impactful. This work makes a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable in our communities. The field of early childhood mental health has brought together so many amazing professionals with a wide range of expertise and knowledge. Pam feels excited to be a part of this network, sharing the passion for serving young children and their families.

One of Pam’s most memorable experiences in doing the infant-family and early childhood mental health
work is witnessing the power of relationship and the parallel process from supervisor to provider to
parent to child. Pam believes in the importance of integrating reflective practice as it is an essential
component of providing services for the little ones and the families as well as supporting staff. There is so much to learn and grow from serving young children and their families and caregivers. Pam is
committed to keep learning and growing in this field!

They're Not Too Young...
"Young children notice and think about race. Adults often worry that talking about race will encourage racial bias in children, but the opposite is true. Silence about race reinforces racism by letting children draw their own conclusions based on what they see. Teachers and families can play a powerful role in helping children of all ages develop positive attitudes about race and diversity and skills to promote a more just future—but only if we talk about it."

Training Updates
Reflective Practice Groups Continue
As COVID-19 hit in early Spring, the Training & Education committee has been exploring ways to support our CalAIMH members and have been successful by offering virtual reflective practice groups and webinar trainings. These membership benefits were born from the collective effort among those in the Reflective Practice subcommittee.
|
Virtual groups have been provided on a voluntary basis by some of CalAIMH’s endorsed reflective practice facilitators/mentors. These groups led by Barbara Stroud, Jennifer Silverstein, and Diane Reynolds have explored the effects of this pandemic on our professional work and have deepened discussions to include reflections on racism and social injustice. If you are interested in joining a virtual group today, please contact the facilitators directly.

Member Benefit Webinars will continue in lieu of the CalAIMH 2021 Conference
As it became apparent that the COVID-19 pandemic would continue for an undetermined time, we made the decision to cancel the CalAIMH conference scheduled for 2021. As a committee, we understood the importance of offering learning opportunities and highlighting the wealth of knowledge within our professional community. CalAIMH member, Diane Reynolds, volunteered to be our first webinar speaker, presenting Observe, Reflect, Respond: Reflective Practice on Zoom!, which proved to be a very popular and relevant topic. The success of this webinar is measured not only by the very high evaluation scores given by the participants but also by the addition of more than 30 new members to CalAIMH!
|
Our second webinar titled Addressing Racism and Social Justice in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health: Challenging Ourselves and Systems with CalAIMH member Dominique Eugene along with Myisha Driver-Wood, La Tonya Lawrence, and Jennifer Lassiter was met with enthusiasm and fostered inspiration.

In Case You Missed It...
Members are able to view past webinars when they log in to the CalAIMH website using their member login information. Find the "member portal" at the top right hand corner of the website and click on the link. There you will find past webinars for you to view.

Increasing Our Social Media Presence
Did you know that we have increased our social media presence in the past few months? Our Facebook page and our Instagram following continue to grow as the marketing committee pushes out efforts to share evidence-based information to our community as well as events and webinars. Please be sure to like our page and stay informed via Facebook or follow us on Instagram. And be sure to share our posts with your network. This will help us grow as an organization and help ensure more people get valuable information.
